What is Video Heb?

Video Heb is a young people’s video making group which has been set up in the Western Isles. The idea is to encourage young people to learn about and take part in film-making. This project provides training in a cross-range of skills including, camera and sound operation, acting, documentary reporting, researching, interviewing, script writing, directing, production management and editing. The project caters for Gaelic and English speakers with films being made incorporating both languages. The film genres include documentary, comedy, animation and drama.

Aims of Video Heb

  • To provide an advanced level of training for young people who want to learn about film making in all it’s aspects.
  • To enable young people to have increased confidence and creativity through their developing understanding of the making and use of film
  • To enable more film to be made on the Islands which gives voice to young people’s ideas and issues and utilizes both English and Gaelic language.
  • To provide an experimental environment where young people can find appropriate levels of creative expression to encourage their individual development.
  • To equip young people with an understanding of the use of filmmaking equipment to enable them to feel able to confidently make films on their own in the future.

 

Video Heb 2009/10

50 workshops are being delivered over a period of 10 months approximately. The group will meet regularly on a Monday night at Pointers in Stornoway with extra workshops for filming as required. The project is being run by workshop leaders, (Muriel Ann Macleod of Theatre Hebrides and Joe Mahoney - a locally based Animation artist) Other industry professionals will be called upon on a regular basis to offer specialist training through a series of “one off” workshops.
