THEME
Is ann as an eachdraidh shònraichte de’n Eaglais Chlèidhreach ann an Leòdhas anns na 1820s agus na 1840s a rug Roghainn nan Daoine. Seo agaibh sgeulachd caileag fulangach à Leòdhas le creideamh làidir agus air a sàrachadh le uachdaran an-iochdmhor, an cultar air a sgrios agus na daòine air am fuadachadh as an tìr am measg an gort.
Roghainn Nan Daoine is inspired by the remarkable history of the emergence of the Free Church in Lewis between the 1820's and late 1840's We follow one young Island woman's life and her growth of belief and resilience in a culture ravaged by landlord oppression, the potato famine and forced displacement of people in favour of sheep.
Using experimental physical theatre, humour and dramatic intensity the work is performed for us by some of our best Hebridean actors. Traditional music, song and soundscape are played out in a beautiful Harris Tweed arena.
